Washington, DC – Yesterday, native Washingtonian Lewis Hollins woke up to news that he was half a million dollars richer. He is THE GRAND PRIZE WINNER in the DC Lottery’s Neighborhoods Second Chance contest. The DC Lottery announced Mr. Hollins as the winner of the coveted prize today during Get Up DC! on WUSA*9.

A foster parent who believes in second chances, Mr. Hollins says he was headed out-of-town when he got the call from the DC Lottery informing him of his big win. “I turned that car around; wouldn’t you?” he laughed. Hollins intends to pay off his current mortgage and buy another home in DC with his winnings.

“Although players win prizes of all sizes everyday with the DC Lottery, it is a special occasion to award this $500,000 win as it is the largest single second chance prize in the history of the DC Lottery,” said Executive Director Beth Bresnahan.

This isn’t Hollins’ first visit to the DC Lottery’s winner’s circle. He won $20,160 in 2016; and $30,000 in 2017 with the Second Chance contests associated with the You Decide and MAJIC 102.3 scratcher tickets, respectively. He said he was inspired to try the DC Lottery’s Second Chance opportunities when he witnessed the good fortune of other Second Chance players.

The Neighborhoods Second Chance contest was held in association with the $10 Neighborhoods instant scratcher ticket. More than 60,000 entries were submitted into the contest. Today’s grand prize announcement is the culmination of the contest that ran from July 12, 2017 to April 26, 2018. A drawing for a $25,000 second chance prize was conducted in September 2017.
